Yankees Lose Out on Hiroyuki Nakajima
The 24 hours in a day were not enough for the New York Yankees to sign Japanese infielder Hiroyuki Nakajima. Yankees won the right to negotiate with Nakajima with a $2 million bid last month. Today, Brian Cashman released a statement stating that the two sides could not reach an agreement. It has been speculated that New York was only willing to offer the infielder a one year deal, while he was searching for a longer contract. Jack Curry says that the Japanese star was going to be used as a role bench player, and Hiroyuki Nakajima felt he was ready to have immediate impact on the roster. Since the two sides could not come to an agreement, the Yankees are not responsible for the $2 million bid.
