Last night, the Knicks traveled to Washington to take on the winless Wizards. Should be an easy win, right? WRONG! Yes, New York got the win, but the margin of the win was a cause for concern. With a recent loss to the Bobcats, and embarrassing losses to both Golden State and Los Angeles, one was left to think, "Were the Knicks really capable of contending?"
Against the Wizards, some of the Knicks exploded offensively. The headliner was Carmelo Anthony, who finished with 37 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Amar'e Stoudemire ended with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Tyson Chandler 12 points and 15 rebounds.
The real story for Knicks' fans is that point guard Toney Douglas started, but only played 12 minutes. Iman Shumpert jumped into the driver's seat and had 10 points with 7 assists. He looked extremely comfortable throughout the game. He only issued two turnovers in his 37 minutes of play last night, while Toney Douglas had three in only 12 minutes. Is the time coming where we will see Shumpert replace Douglas in the starting lineup?
New York Knicks: 99
Washington Wizards: 96
