A few days ago you might recall me stating that the Mets were "looking into" possibly signing Ryan Theriot. Well today we have word, via the Mets web page, that the Mets have inked Omar Quintanilla to a minor league deal. The 30 year old infielder appeared in 30 games last season for the Texas Rangers. This is a great pick up for New York. He can back up Ruben Tejada at short, or fill in at another position in the infield.
Quintanilla has a .213 batting average over the course of his career; most of his at bats came when playing with the Colorado Rockies. You might not think about it, but that's great considering he has prior experience in the National League. Let's not forget that the Mets also have Justin Turner as a back up option, but he cannot play the SS position and is ideally a 2nd or 3rd basemen.
